For purposes of this web
site we will consistently use water as the prime example of what happens
when an electrically conductive material flows through a pipe and how it
reacts when conditioned magnetically; however, virtually any electrically
conductive liquid or gas flowing through a pipe will have similar effects
on the pipe and could be similarly treated with our magnetic conditioning
products. This includes crude oil, petroleum, gasoline, diesel, natural
gas, etc. For purposes of this discussion of magnetic conditioning of water
pipes we will consistently use steel pipes which are normally susceptible
to scaling , corrosion and algae. Pipes made from other materials may be
resistant to one or more of these problems.
MagneGen® Pipe Protectors REVERSE Physical Attraction
In accordance with Faraday's "Law of Magnetic Induction" (see Faraday), MagneGen's® Pipe Protectors, acting as a Faraday Generator, REVERSE the effects of Helmholtz's "Pipe Charging" (see Helmholtz) by polarizing the pipe 100-175 millivolts negative and returning the water to a positively charged condition as it would be in a free flowing, clear stream in nature. This negative polarization of the pipe REVERSES the problems we described in The Problem as follows:
MagneGen® Pipe Protectors Strongly Ionize the Water and Promote Dissolution of Scale
In accordance with well known
magnetic phenomena, some of the water molecules flowing through the pipe
are dissociated (i.e. the weak bonds between the hydrogen and oxygen atoms
are broken). We call this magnetic phenomenon ionization. Ionization has
the effect of lowering the surface tension of the water to make it act
more like "soft" water thus making soap suds easily, providing cleaner
rinsing, making the water taste better, etc. Ionization also creates two
powerful free radicals, the hydronium ion (H+) and the hydroxyl ion (OH-).
The positive hydronium ions are attracted to the negatively polarized pipe
where they then provide the very nice service of reacting with, for example,
calcite deposits on scaled up pipes and water heaters and cooling towers.
This chemical reaction is the same reaction you would get if you were to
add an acid to clean out pipes: some of the calcium carbonate is converted
to into calcium bicarbonate and water and is washed away with the flow
of water. Over time the scale can be completely removed. In addition, the
hydroxyl ion is a powerful oxidizer which may act as a fungicide and kill
algae. However, ionization alone - i.e. the production of hydronium ions
that can act as an acid and hydroxyl ions that can act as an alkali - may
actually increase corrosion. You must also polarize the pipe negative in
order to protect it against the potentially corrosive effects of powerful
free radicals. In addition, the magnetic ionization of the dissolved solids
in the water has the effect of confusing the formation of crystalline solids:
rather than forming calcite scale - regular hexagonal crystals locked together
to form a very hard scale - whatever scale may be deposited is laid down
as soft aragonite scale - irregular crystals haphazardly laid down to form
a very soft scale - which can usually be easily swept away by the flowing
water as clay or mud.
